Our first wobbly, unsure baby steps are almost always taken in a caring environment and with the help of a loved one’s assuring hands. In time we grow to know the adoring faces, comfort, and support of those first surroundings—essential elements of a very special place we come to know as home. Each of us has more than one such place because our wants and needs change throughout our lives. As young adults, home often means independence. Then love multiplies, and as parents, our special place becomes a many-faceted, precious gem, reflecting the joy and meaning of our lives. When the kids have moved on, our needs become a fascinating mix of independence and cherished proximity to family. And finally, as with our first steps in this world, our initial movements toward the next may require an environment of trust and comfort and care. Hospice of Mercy will provide the community with exactly that: a special environment for a special time of life—a place that exists solely to offer the comfort and support of family, loved ones, and people who care when we need them most.
